Server Offline

The web server is currently offline for security or maintenance reasons. We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope to have the server back online as soon as possible.

This outage is intentional, and has been carried out by an Administrator to prevent damage to our website and database. If the downtime is going to last for an extended period of time, an e-mail will be sent out to all members.

If you wish to contact our staff or post on the forums, those two sections are still accessible.

BRIEF UPDATE - MAY 22/2009[+/-]

We're working on getting the schedule done as fast as we possibly can...I can't give any sort of ETA though, not even 'off the record'. All I can say is keep checking back, it won't take us too long!

We'll be posting an 'official' news release in the coming days, but the main reason for this update is, we're trying to fill some vacancies in the staff offices. One reason you're reading this "Server Offline" page is we're short-staffed at the moment.

Read all the details in the forum post, located here.

CANADIAN AIRLINES VIRTUAL - MAY 19/2009[+/-]

So I'm sure you noticed the new website...we're very proud of it, but unfortunately, we screwed up...royally.

Alright alright, its not a disaster or anything, but here's the long story cut short- our web hosting contract was expiring this week, and we decided to move servers to a new host. Along with the move came a brand-spanking-new website; the aim was to make it more realistic, and more user-friendly. We were able to do so, but here's the part where we screwed up:

We had a target of..well...today, to have it all finished and open it up with a big bang. Where we screwed up was, we don't have our new Flight Schedule done, so we can't open the website. No flight schedule means no flying, right? As I said, our old web hosting expires this week, so we had to get everything off of the old server, and we were forced to move to the new site. The new website is all done and ready for takeoff, aside from the schedule. The old site will not run on the new server, and the two databases are completely incompatible with each other; thats why the Statistics box to the right has no PIREPs or flight hours to report, aside from the ones we transferred over manually from the old website. So it was either move to the new site and keep it closed while we finish the schedule, or be stuck without a website at all when the old server expires. And our COO Justin Martin spent so much money on planes, we had no cash left to renew the old web hosting plan! =P  (Bad joke, I know..sorry Justin, I had to do it!)

I'm hoping to have the flight schedule done as quickly as we possibly can, but I don't want to give an ETA and then have it not be met; we weren't even able to meet our 'internal' target to finish it! I'm sure you guys are pissed; I am too, but its a hobby, right? Not a whole lot we can do when every one of us has a life outside of Flight Sim...

So yeah, until the new schedule is complete, we'll have to keep the site closed for now...unofficially, it should be up within 2 weeks, but I can't guarantee that at all. The forums and the Contact Us page are both working though, if you need to get in touch with us. And for any pilots who were members of Air Canadian (its funny how most of the Canadian VAs all have similar names, eh?), I know its been a while since ACD folded, but if you'd like to try us out once we're fully running, we'll relax the "max 75 transfer hours" rule for you guys so your entire ACD logbook can be transferred over to us. More details on that later.

In the meantime, thanks for stopping by, and my sincere apologies for this...we didn't plan as well as we should have, but it won't be too long!!
